     RELATING TO EDUCATION -- FOUNDATION LEVEL SCHOOL SUPPORT

     Introduced By: Senators Gallo, Conley, Lombardo, Goodwin, and Paolino

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 16-7 of the General Laws entitled "Foundation Level School

Support [See Title 16 Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board Of Education Act]" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     16-7-44.3. Program incentives.

     (a) School districts that award the architectural services to a resident architectural firm for

the architectural services included in a new school or school renovation project shall receive an

increased school housing ratio of five percent (5%) for those specific projects.

     (b) For the purposes of this section a "resident architectural firm" means an architectural

firm or business that has paid unemployment taxes or income taxes in the state during thirty-six

(36) consecutive calendar months, has a business corporate headquarters facility located in the

state, and has registered with the secretary of state to conduct business in the state.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would provide increased school housing aid for communities that utilize resident

architectural firms, for the architectural services included in a new school or school renovation

project.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
