RELATING TO HEALTH AND SAFETY -- VITAL RECORDS

     

     Introduced By: Senators Paolino, Pearson, Rogers, de la Cruz, and Raptakis

     Date Introduced: February 13, 2020

     Referred To: Senate Judiciary

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 23-3 of the General Laws entitled "Vital Records" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     23-3-16.1. Additional duties of funeral directors.

     Upon the filing of the death certificate pursuant to ยง 23-3-16, the funeral directors, their

5

duly authorized agents or persons acting as agents shall file written or electronic notification of

6

the name, date of birth and address of the deceased with the office of the secretary of state and the

7

board of canvassers of the city or town in accordance with the address listed on the death

8

certificate, for the purpose of removal of the deceased from the rolls of registered voters.

9

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would require funeral directors or their duly authorized agents, upon the filing of

a death certificate, to file written or electronic notification of the name and address of the

3

deceased with the office of the secretary of state and the board of canvassers, in accordance with

4

what is listed on the death certificate, for the purpose of removal of the deceased from the roles of

5

registered voters.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
