RELATING TO ELECTIONS -- CANVASSING THE LISTS OF QUALIFIED ELECTORS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 17-10-16 of the General Laws in Chapter 17-10 entitled "Canvassing |
2 | the Lists of Qualified Electors" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
3 | 17-10-16. Challenge lists. |
4 | The local state board shall prepare electronic lists and annex a "challenge list" to each of |
5 | these canvassed and certified voting lists. The challenge list shall consist of the names and |
6 | addresses of all persons who are determined to be ineligible to vote in the ensuing election at any |
7 | time after the final list of eligible voters has been certified by the local board. The challenge list |
8 | shall also contain the names and addresses of all persons who have been furnished mail ballots. |
9 | The challenge list shall also contain the names and addresses of all persons who, after the final list |
10 | of voters eligible to participate in the election have been certified, become ineligible to vote for |
11 | failure to comply with § 17-9.1-25. Provided, that the state board, by regulation, may authorize |
12 | local boards to code the certified list to be provided to voting district wardens to indicate the |
13 | ineligibility of a voter or the status of a voter as a mail ballot voter, or the status of a voter as an |
14 | inactive voter who has become ineligible to vote for failure to comply with § 17-9.1-25. |
15 | Notwithstanding if an electronic list is unavailable from the state board, the local board shall |
16 | provide to voting district wardens a paper list containing the same information. Copies of the |
17 | challenge these lists shall be furnished upon request to political party workers at each polling place |
18 | at the office of the local board. |
