S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF LOURDES J. MOSSOR

     WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of

2

Lourdes J. Mossor, wife of the late Howard W. Mossor, Sr., the loving mother of Howard Wayne

3

Mossor, Jr., and his wife, Toshiko, Kerry Louden, and her husband, Michael, and Claudia

4

Bednarski, and the cherished grandmother of three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and

5

     WHEREAS, Lourdes Mossor was affectionately known as "Lou" by her family and many

6

friends. She was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Mary and Alfred

7

Rodrigues, Sr., and the sister of Alfred Rodrigues, Jr., and his wife, Norma. She is also survived

8

by many nieces and nephews; and

9

     WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Mossor was a constant advocate and

10

champion for veterans. In 1957, she joined the Dusza-Almeida VFW Auxiliary, serving as State

11

President, and as the VFW Deputy to the Providence Veteran's Hospital for over 50 years, where

12

she did volunteer work, as well as visiting and hosting fundraisers; and

13

     WHEREAS, Highly regarded for her devotion to veterans and in the community, Mrs.

14

Mossor was honored with myriad awards. She was chosen to throw out the first pitch at the

15

Pawtucket Red Sox Game on Military Appreciation Day at McCoy Stadium, and was asked to

16

lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the Inauguration of the City of Pawtucket's Mayor Grebien; and

17

     WHEREAS, In addition to her family and efforts for veterans, Mrs. Mossor was

18

employed in the jewelry industry for many years and as the meal site manager at the Leon

19

Matthews Senior Center until her retirement in 2005. She had also served as Clerk and Supervisor

20

for the Board of Canvassers for 35 years and worked on numerous state and local political

campaigns. She was a founding member of the Burns Manor Tenants Association, where she

2

served as the President for over 20 years, a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, and

3

somehow found time to be an avid reader, occasionally reading a book a day; and

4

     WHEREAS, There is no doubt that Lou Mossor, a caring, dependable, and loyal woman,

5

left this world a far better place because of her life’s endeavors. Her generosity enriched the lives

6

of all who knew her and set a standard for excellence in altruistic service that is an inspiration to

7

us all; now, therefore be it

8

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

9

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Lourdes J. Mossor; and be it further

10

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

11

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Howard Wayne Mossor, Jr., Kerry Louden, and

12

Claudia Bednarski.
