EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ANGELA SMITH | |

1 | WHEREAS, Angela Smith of Westerly passed away on February 29, 2020. She was the |
2 | daughter of the late Sarah and Paul Miceli, and the beloved wife of the late Arthur Smith; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was a hard-working professional who tirelessly strove to help |
4 | provide for her family. She was the Office Administrator for the Westerly Medical Center for |
5 | more than forty-two years and a real estate broker for forty-eight years. She was well-respected |
6 | by her peers and made innumerable friendships with many of her co-workers and business |
7 | associates; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was a breast cancer survivor who inspired many with her |
9 | courageous fight against the disease. As a survivor, she was quick to bring words of |
10 | encouragement to other women who shared the same hardship; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was best known for her many decades of community |
12 | involvement and support for numerous charities and civic organizations in Westerly. She donated |
13 | much of her time, talent and financial support to a myriad of community events, scholarship |
14 | programs, and fundraisers. She served as a past President of the Ocean Community Chamber |
15 | Commerce, was the first female President of the Westerly Lions Club, and was a board member |
16 | of the Dante Society. She also played a vital role in the overwhelming success of Westerly’s year- |
17 | long 350th birthday celebration; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was the recipient of numerous awards and honors for her |
19 | volunteer work. She received the Lions Club Melvin Jones Award, the Chamber of Commerce |
20 | Key Award, the Westerly Armory Community Service Award, and was a past Westerly Citizen of |

1 | the Year honoree. Most recently, she received the 2019 Athena Award; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith was a woman of great faith and was a communicant and lector |
3 | at St. Clare’s Church. In her free time, she loved taking part in various activities with family and |
4 | friends, and also loved spending time at the Westerly Yacht Club, where she was a lifetime |
5 | member with her husband Arthur; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Smith is survived by her children, Dean Smith and his wife, Barbara, |
7 | and Kelly Levcowich and her husband, Mitchel. She was predeceased by her daughter Cheryl |
8 | Mayhew, and is survived by her son-in-law Jon Mayhew. She also leaves behind her |
9 | grandchildren, Nicholas and his wife, Lindsay, Ryan and Kyle Smith, Katie Mikkelsen and her |
10 | husband, Andrew, Jill Alviani and her husband, Nico, Erika Levcowich, Griffin, Hunter and |
11 | Samantha Mayhew, and two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Thea. She is survived by her sisters- |
12 | in-law, Deanna Lancer, Maureen Smith, Ann Smith and her husband, Herbert, Ann Smith and her |
13 | husband, Richard, Susan Latz, Una Smith, and her brother-in-law Gary Latz. She was |
14 | predeceased by her brothers-in-law Robert Lancer, Herbert Smith, Robert Smith, Richard Smith, |
15 | and David Dereski; now, therefore be it |
16 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
17 | hereby expresses its condolences to the Smith Family on the passing of Angela Smith; and be it |
18 | further |
19 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
20 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Dean Smith and Kelly Levcowich. |
