EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JOSEPHINE D. SLATER | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of |
2 | Josephine D. Slater, beloved wife of the Honorable Thomas C. Slater, former Rhode Island State |
3 | Representative, and the devoted mother of Gary Slater and his wife, Lauren, our friend and |
4 | colleague the Honorable Scott Slater and his wife, Bianca, and Ellen Gopalakrishnan and her |
5 | husband, Dr. Paari Gopalakrishnan; and |
6 | WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the City of Providence, “Jody” as she was |
7 | affectionately known by her family and friends, was a daughter of the late Patrick and Madeline |
8 | McKiernan and the sister of Donald McKiernan, Paul McKiernan, and Gary McKiernan; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Slater was also the doting “Nana” of eleven beautiful grandchildren, |
10 | Riley, Daven, Thomas, Jonathan, Mia, Taylor, Kendall, Madeline, Avery, Elise, and Quinn, and a |
11 | faithful and devout communicant of Saint Matthew’s Church. At the time of her passing, she had |
12 | been a resident of Capitol Ridge Assisted Living in Providence; and |
13 | WHEREAS, In addition to making a warm and welcoming home for her family and |
14 | friends, Mrs. Slater had been employed as an operator for the New England Telephone Company |
15 | for more than thirty years before retiring, and had also worked as a teacher’s assistant with the |
16 | Providence School Department; and |
17 | WHEREAS, With a loving personality, Mrs. Slater left an indelible mark on the lives of |
18 | those she knew and loved, and she will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
19 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
20 | hereby extends deepest sympathies to the entire Slater Family on the passing of Josephine D. |

2 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and herby is authorized and directed to |
3 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Gary Slater and Family, the Honorable Scott |
4 | Slater and Family, and Ellen Gopalakrishnan and Family. |
