HONORING JESSICA BRIER, RN, MS, CV CNS-BC ON HER RETIREMENT FROM THE | |
MIRIAM HOSPITAL | |

1 | WHEREAS, If you combine the two aptitudes of nursing and leadership, both of which |
2 | require tremendous dedication, compassion, and skill, the end result is a job totally suited to the |
3 | talents and sensibilities of Jessica Brier; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Ms. Brier's nursing credentials and educational background are superlative. |
5 | She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Lake Forest College in Illinois, her |
6 | Associate's degree in Nursing from the Community College of Rhode Island, a Bachelor of |
7 | Science degree in Nursing from Rhode Island College, and a Master of Science Nursing degree in |
8 | Clinical Practice from the University of Rhode Island. In addition, through the years, she has |
9 | earned a plethora of advanced certifications from the American Nurses Credentialing Center; and |
10 | WHEREAS, In 1983, Ms. Brier began in the nursing profession as a Staff Nurse with |
11 | Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Units and in 1992, she joined the staff of Miriam Hospital as |
12 | an Assistant Nurse Manager with the CV Surgery Intermediate Care Unit. Utilizing her skills and |
13 | advancing her educational qualifications, she has been a Case Manager for Cardiovascular |
14 | Surgery, a Staff Nurse in the Emergency Room, a Heart Failure Clinical Nurse Specialist, the |
15 | Magnet Site Coordinator, and ultimately, a Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Center |
16 | for Professional Practice Development at Miriam Hospital; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Professionally, Ms. Brier is a member of numerous associations including |
18 | the Rhode Island State Board of Nurse Registration and Licensure where she served as President |
19 | for five years, and a member of the American Nurses Association and Rhode Island State Nurses |

1 | Association, the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Sigma Theta Tau |
2 | International: Honor Society of Nurses, and a Life Member of the Miriam Hospital Women’s |
3 | Association; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Earning the respect of her peers, Ms. Brier received the Jaffe Award for |
5 | Excellence in Nursing from Miriam Hospital, and the President’s Award from the RI State |
6 | Nurses’ Association. She also co-founded The Ocean State Clinical Nurse Specialist Consortium, |
7 | and has presented at myriad nursing conferences and been published in numerous medical |
8 | journals; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Jessica Brier is an innovative and dynamic woman. She is a true role |
10 | model, and she is eminently worthy of our praise and acknowledgement; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
12 | hereby recognizes and honors Jessica Brier on the occasion of her retirement after thirty-six years |
13 | of dedicated service in patient care and administration at Miriam Hospital. We thank her for all |
14 | her efforts, and wish her good health, fulfillment and much success in all her future endeavors; |
15 | and be it further |
16 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
17 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Jessica Brier, RN, MS, CV CNS-BC. |
