H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE

RICHARD W. SINGLETON

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of the

Honorable Richard W. Singleton, a highly-respected former member of the Rhode Island House

of Representatives; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton was born in Boston, the son of Mary Singleton and the late

Charles Singleton. He was a graduate of Northeastern University and went on to have a long and

successful career as a financial advisor and the owner of the Singleton Financial Group; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton had a long and distinguished public service career. He was

elected to represent the citizens of Cumberland in District 52 for two terms from 2005 to 2009,

where he served his constituents and Rhode Island with honor, integrity and tireless service. He

was well-liked by all of his colleagues and was widely respected for his vast knowledge of

budgetary and financial issues. He also served as the Bellingham, Massachusetts, Town

Moderator, and most recently was appointed to the Bellingham School Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton, known by family and friends as "Richie", was a charismatic

person, devout patriot, devoted family man, and loyal friend to countless people. He loved the

music of Frank Sinatra, and was a long-time communicant and minstrel member at St. John

Vianney Church, where his drumming was compared to Buddy Rich and his voice was called

"angelic"; and

     WHEREAS, In addition to his mother, Mr. Singleton leaves behind his children,

Christopher, Ryan, Katelyn, and Michael Singleton, and his grandchildren, Madison Squibb,

Christopher Singleton, Jr., Layla Singleton, and Cillian Ryan. He also leaves behind his siblings,

Daniel, Carole, Liza, Francis, and John Singleton; and

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Richard Singleton consistently demonstrated an abiding

dedication to serving the best interests of his community and our State and he will be dearly

missed by all who had the good fortune to be part of his extraordinary life; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby expresses its deepest

condolences to the Singleton Family on the passing of the Honorable Richard W. Singleton; and

be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Christopher, Ryan, Katelyn and Michael

Singleton.
