EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE ANTHONY J.

CARCIERI

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Anthony J. Carcieri, the beloved husband of Joan Carcieri

2

for fifty years and a devoted public servant for many years, passed away on April 17, 2021. He

3

was born in Providence, the son of the late Mario and Santina Carcieri; and

4

     WHEREAS, Mr. Carcieri graduated from La Salle Academy and then joined the United

5

States Air Force, serving our nation with distinction as an air craft technician. Upon completing

6

his enlistment, he continued his education at Rhode Island College, graduating with a Bachelor’s

7

degree with emphasis on mathematics and chemistry; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mr. Carcieri began his exemplary career as an educator when he attained a

9

position teaching chemistry for the Town of Coventry. He later advanced to become the Chair of

10

the Science Department at Warwick Veterans High School. During this time, Mr. Carcieri

11

furthered his education by attaining advanced degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute,

12

Stanford University and Marquette University, where he received an invitation to matriculate in

13

the Jesuit School of Medicine and join the faculty for a period of time as an instructor in the

14

Chemistry Department; and

15

     WHEREAS, Throughout his esteemed life, Mr. Carcieri felt that he had a civic

16

responsibility to improve the quality of life in the State of Rhode Island, especially for children

17

and our public school system. He began his public service career in 1972, when he was elected to

18

represent the citizens of Warwick in the Rhode Island House of Representatives. For fourteen

19

years he served our State with integrity and distinction, compiling a sterling record of excellence

on issues pertaining to education and children’s issues. He was widely respected and admired by

2

his colleagues and was selected to Chair the House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare;

3

and

4

     WHEREAS, In the latter part of his professional career, Mr. Carcieri became a Child

5

Advocate and fought tirelessly to protect the safety and improve the quality of life for all children

6

in Rhode Island, but especially those who came into contact with our legal system; and

7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Carcieri had many different interests in his life. In his younger days, he

8

enjoyed sailing on Narragansett Bay with his wife and friends, and in later years, was a proud

9

member of the TriCity Elks Lodge #14 in Warwick. He also enjoyed spending winter days in

10

Florida and travelling the country with his wife in their motorhome. First and foremost in his life

11

were always his family and friends, and nothing gave him greater joy than spending quality time

12

with them; and

13

     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Mr. Carcieri leaves behind his sons, Anthony Chris

14

Carcieri and Raymond Ballou, his grandchildren, Melissa, John, Braeden and Mason, his great-

15

grandchildren, Christopher, Abbey, Nicholas and Jackson, and his great-great-grandchildren,

16

Aubree and Preston. He was the father of the late Carol Coutcher and the brother of the late

17

Violet Signorelli; and

18

     WHEREAS, Mr. Carcieri leaves behind a proud legacy of distinguished public service

19

and making a positive difference in the lives of many. He will long be remembered by his loved

20

ones for the deep reservoir of love he gave on a daily basis, his compassionate and charitable

21

nature, and for his deep faith and devotion to God; now, therefore be it

22

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

23

expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of the Honorable Anthony Carcieri; and be it

24

further

25

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

26

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Joan Carcieri and Family.
