H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING AND THANKING RHODE ISLAND'S SENIOR CENTERS FOR THEIR

DEDICATION TO PROVIDING VITAL SERVICES DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC

     WHEREAS, Senior Centers are community gathering places that provide some of the

2

most widely used programs and essential services to enrich and assist the lives of Rhode Islanders

3

over the age of fifty; and

4

     WHEREAS, Some of the invaluable services provided by Rhode Island Senior Centers

5

include: meal and nutrition programs, health & wellness programs, information on community

6

resources, eligibility screening for local, State & Federal assistance programs, assistance

7

identifying employment or volunteer opportunities, and limited transportation; and

8

     WHEREAS, For more than a year, the world has been grappling with the devastating

9

physical, financial, and emotional toll of the COVID-19 pandemic, and one of the hardest

10

affected age groups has been our seniors; and

11

     WHEREAS, Many of Rhode Island's Senior Centers have provided crucial information,

12

testing, and clinics for COVID vaccinations as well as continuing services to individuals in our

13

State's most hard-hit areas, such as the Lillian Feinstein Senior Center in Providence that provides

14

social services and food assistance to around 40 seniors who are living alone or have had very

15

limited opportunities for social interaction particularly during the pandemic; and

16

     WHEREAS, Rhode Island's Senior Centers have been life-saving resources for many of

17

our State's most vulnerable and they are truly deserving of our recognition and gratitude; now,

18

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

thanks and recognizes the dedicated leadership and staff of Rhode Island's Senior Centers for

2

their tireless and selfless devotion to our State's seniors particularly during the pandemic; and be

3

it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Rhode Island Office of Healthy Aging, and

6

Jasmine Roca, Program Manager of the Lillian Feinstein Senior Center.
