HONORING ROCCO M. MARCACCIO ON THE MOMENTOUS OCCASION OF HIS 100TH | |
BIRTHDAY ON JUNE 8, 2021 | |

1 | WHEREAS, The year 1921 was a difficult time in the history of the United States. |
2 | Warren G. Harding was President and the economy was just beginning to rebound from the |
3 | "Forgotten Depression" which had preceded the Great Depression. Such were the times when |
4 | Rocco Marcaccio was born; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Marcaccio is a very proud first generation Italian American and the |
6 | fourth child in the large and close-knit family of Vito and Margaret Marcaccio; and |
7 | WHEREAS, At the age of 16, with employment opportunities scarce, Mr. Marcaccio left |
8 | home to work at one of the country's Civilian Conservation Corps far from home in Colorado. He |
9 | returned to Rhode Island to work at the Wanskuck Mill which was manufacturing military |
10 | uniforms, as the war in Europe began to escalate; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Once Pearl Harbor was hit, Mr. Marcaccio enlisted even though working at |
12 | the uniform plant had qualified him for an exemption to military service. He was soon sent to |
13 | training at Camp Edwards and subsequently assigned to the 90 MM Battalion of the 132nd AAA |
14 | team where he shortly thereafter, became a Corporal, T5 Technician; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Mr. Marcaccio's division was one of two American divisions to land on |
16 | Utah Beach, and later participate in Elbe Day, which was an important step toward the end of |
17 | World War II, but a day that saw many brave men fall; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Upon returning stateside in 1946, Mr. Marcaccio married the love of his |
19 | life, Alma. A few years later, together with his best friend Andrew, he build the home that he and |

1 | Alma would come to raise their four children in, and which still remains Mr. Marcaccio's home |
2 | today. His family now also includes his children's spouses as well as nine grandchildren and |
3 | three great-grandchildren; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In 1983, after more than thirty-three years, Mr. Marcaccio retired from his |
5 | position as Building Superintendent at the Old Stone Bank. Sadly in 2013, after sixty-seven |
6 | wonderful years together, Alma passed away at the age of 90; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Rocco Marcaccio has led a noble and full life, replete with love and family, |
8 | and his courage and service to our country as a member of the "Greatest Generation" brought |
9 | honor and distinction not only to himself, but to an entire world, and we are happy to join in his |
10 | joyous birthday celebration; and |
11 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
12 | joins the family and friends of Rocco Marcaccio in wishing him a very happy 100th Birthday; and |
13 | be it further |
14 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
15 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Rocco Marcaccio. |
