1 | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Violet Bucci was born in Middletown, Connecticut, in 1929 to |
2 | Caesare and Veronica Annelli. She was the youngest and remaining survivor of sixteen siblings; |
3 | and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Bucci moved to Newport as a young child and was a graduate of St. |
5 | Catherine’s Academy in Newport. As a young woman, she worked for the Canvassing Authority |
6 | as a secretary. Shortly thereafter, she met her late husband Anthony Bucci and together, they |
7 | launched a successful business, Bucci’s Combination Store on Bridge Street before permanently |
8 | settling on Thames Street in Newport; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Bucci, in her duties as a proprietor, was widely known for her tireless |
10 | work ethic, as she strived daily to provide for her family and loved ones. In her more mature |
11 | years, she provided care for numerous elderly people, simply because it was the right thing to do. |
12 | She also was the unofficial babysitter for scores of neighborhood kids and the many dogs who |
13 | would visit the back of her store for a treat; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Bucci also took great joy in being part of the local community and |
15 | loved being introduced in her store to the younger members of the families of the parents who |
16 | had shopped at her store in years prior. She was an amazing listener who loved good |
17 | conversations, and her generosity and kindness earned her the endearing nickname of “Momma |
18 | Bucci”; and |
19 | WHEREAS, After six decades, Mrs. Bucci sold the family business to focus on her |

1 | family. In her free time, she loved to cook elaborate meals for her family, travelling with her |
2 | daughter, was an avid reader, and took great joy in spending time with and learning about the |
3 | various activities of her grandsons; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Bucci is survived by her three children, Anthony Bucci, Veronica |
5 | Bucci and her husband, Stephen Mey, and Bruce Bucci and his wife, Mary. She also leaves |
6 | behind her grandsons, Wyatt Mey and Michael Bucci, and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. |
7 | She was preceded in death by her spouse, parents, siblings, and her grandson, Jeffrey Bucci; now, |
8 | therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
10 | expresses its deepest condolences to the Bucci Family on the passing of Elizabeth Violet Bucci; |
11 | and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Anthony Bucci, Veronica Bucci and Bruce |
14 | Bucci. |
