EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF EDUARDO SANDOVAL

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Eduardo

2

Sandoval. Mr. Sandoval was born in Managua, Nicaragua, to Eduardo Antonio Sandoval Duarte

3

and Rosa Amanda López Castillo; and

4

     WHEREAS, At the young age of 17, Mr. Sandoval was recruited to take part in a

5

national literacy program in Nicaragua in the 1980s, following the Sandinista Revolution, serving

6

in an indigenous community in the northern area of Nicaragua. Mr. Sandoval later served as an

7

intelligence officer in the Nicaraguan military. In the 1990s, he graduated from the Universidad

8

Centroamericana with a degree in business administration; and

9

     WHEREAS, Mr. Sandoval came to the United States shortly thereafter, and settled in

10

Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood. He brought with him a tireless work ethic and soon

11

became a successful entrepreneur and a widely admired and respected community activist. Mr.

12

Sandoval was one of the founding members of the Olneyville Neighborhood Association (ONA),

13

and served with diligence and devotion as an integral member of the Association; and

14

     WHEREAS, Mr. Sandoval was a wise and beloved mentor and friend to many

15

community members. He always had time to help someone in need of assistance. Thanks to his

16

leadership and guidance, the Olneyville Neighborhood Association led the campaign for many

17

years in support of driver’s licenses for the undocumented Rhode Island community; and

18

     WHEREAS, Mr. Sandoval was the beloved brother of Julio Cesar López Mendoza,

19

Lilliam Argentina Sandoval, Nora del Socorro Sandoval López, Rosibel de Jesus Sandoval

20

López, Carlos Adan Sandoval López, Patricia del Carmen Sandoval, Janeth Carolina Sandoval

López, and Jimmy David Sandoval López; now, therefore be it

2

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

3

expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Eduardo Sandoval; and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Julio Cesar López Mendoza, Lilliam Argentina

6

Sandoval, Nora del Socorro Sandoval López, Rosibel de Jesus Sandoval López, Carlos Adan

7

Sandoval López, Patricia del Carmen Sandoval, Janeth Carolina Sandoval López, and Jimmy

8

David Sandoval López.
