EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF YVETTE M. VARY

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Yvette

2

M. Vary. Mrs. Vary was born in Central Falls, the daughter of the late Adelard and Georgette

3

Richard. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Vary and the late Frank Rogers, and sister of

4

the late Joseph Richard and Noella Guerrieri; and

5

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Vary was a United States Navy veteran and served our nation with

6

honor and integrity during World War II. She served with her sister and together they were

7

amongst the first United States Navy Women Accepted for Volunteer Service (WAVES). Mrs.

8

Vary earned the rank of Seaman First Class and performed the duties of a Yeoman in Davisville,

9

Rhode Island; and

10

     WHEREAS, After completing her military service, Mrs. Vary earned a Bachelor of

11

Secretarial Science degree from Bryant College and later worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber,

12

and then with her husband Paul Vary at his business, Darl Construction Co. Mrs. Vary was a

13

skillful and hardworking woman who strived daily to provide for her family and loved ones; and

14

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Vary was a devoted stepmother to Alan Vary, and his wife, Diane, and

15

the late Kenneth Vary. She leaves behind her good friends, Jacqueline Frink, Rae Lunnie, and

16

eleven nieces and nephews; and

17

     WHEREAS, Yvette Vary was a highly spirited woman her entire life who was always

18

well-dressed and enjoyed living to the fullest. She was active in the WAVES organization

19

throughout her life. She participated in an Honor Flight and was recognized for her service to our

20

nation at the Women’s Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and

     WHEREAS, Most recently, the Town of Barrington honored Mrs. Vary’s 100th Birthday

2

with a parade where she received citations and public recognition from Governor Daniel McKee,

3

Senator Jack Reed, Congressman David Cicilline, Barrington Town Manager Jim Cunha (USN

4

Ret.), Central Falls Mayor Maria Rivera, and Rear Admiral Shoshana Chatfield of the Naval War

5

College; now, therefore be it

6

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

7

expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Yvette M. Vary; and be it further

8

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

9

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Alan Vary, Jacqueline Frink, and Rae Lunnie.
