RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING LISA GARCIA ON BEING SELECTED AS | |
THE 2022 "RHODE ISLAND TEACHER OF THE YEAR" | |

1 | WHEREAS, "The future," in the wise words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “belongs to those who |
2 | believe in the beauty of their dreams”; and |
3 | WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Lisa Garcia, a multi-grade level math teacher at |
4 | North Kingstown High School, has inspired her students to envision the possibilities, to have |
5 | confidence in themselves and their abilities, and to believe in a future full of promise; and |
6 | WHEREAS, For her dedication to young people and education, Ms. Garcia has been |
7 | named the 2022 "Rhode Island Teacher of the Year" by the Rhode Island Department of |
8 | Education (RIDE). This recognition is a momentous tribute to an exceptional individual who has |
9 | had a significant and profound impact on the lives of her students; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Combining a genuine love of teaching with boundless enthusiasm, Ms. |
11 | Garcia has led young people through the intricacies and nuances of not only algebra, |
12 | trigonometry, and calculus, but also growing up. She guides her students to reach their full |
13 | potential and become effective and contributing members of the community, thereby facilitating |
14 | their lifelong success; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Garcia worked tirelessly |
16 | to provide her students with the support they needed both academically and emotionally, helping |
17 | them to continue learning and growing throughout the very difficult school year. In particular, she |
18 | "spearheaded the NKHS Flocked Fundraiser, a pandemic-safe way of celebrating the school’s |
19 | senior students and keeping morale high"; and |

1 | WHEREAS, As the 2022 Rhode Island Teacher of the Year, Ms. Garcia will work with |
2 | RIDE to support education on a statewide level with an extra emphasis on educator recognition |
3 | initiatives, and is eligible to represent the State as the National Teacher of the Year; now, |
4 | therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
6 | thanks and congratulates Lisa Garcia on being named the 2022 "Rhode Island Teacher of the |
7 | Year." We moreover wish her the very best of health and happiness in all her future endeavors; |
8 | and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Lisa Garcia. |
