H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING DOROTHY A. MCCARTHY ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS

DIRECTOR OF THE BOARD OF CANVASSERS FOR THE CITY OF WARWICK

     WHEREAS, For almost two and a half decades, Dorothy McCarthy has served the people

of the City of Warwick in myriad positions, conferring her considerable talents and energy to

making the City's government and services receptive and professional; and

     WHEREAS, "Dottie" as she is fondly known by friends and colleagues, began her

employment with the City of Warwick on March 17, 1997, as a Records Control Clerk in the City

Clerk’s office. In October of 2005, she took a position in the Board of Canvassers Office as a

Central Voter Registration Technician and in April of 2012, became a Voter Registration

Technician; and

     WHEREAS, Highly regarded for her professionalism and diligence, in July of 2019, Ms.

McCarthy was promoted to the position of Acting Director of the Board of Canvassers, and

ultimately named Director one month later, on August 1, 2019; and

     WHEREAS, During her tenure as Director, Ms. McCarthy played a vital role in assuring

the public's confidence in the integrity and security of the City's elections by carrying out the

mission of the Board of Canvassers "to maintain the highest standards of professionalism in the

electoral process for the voters of the City of Warwick''; and

     WHEREAS, A truly conscientious and dedicated woman, Dottie McCarthy serves as a

model of dedicated civic service, and she is enormously worthy of our emulation, adulation, and

acknowledgement; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

honors and thanks Dorothy McCarthy on the occasion of her retirement after more than twenty-

four years of steadfast service to the people of the City of Warwick. We moreover wish her good

health, fulfillment, and continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Dorothy A. McCarthy.
