EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF STEPHANIE OGIDAN

PRESTON

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the passing of

2

Stephanie Ogidan Preston of Providence. She was the devoted wife of Shane Preston and the

3

cherised mother of Aliyah, Trinity and Madison Preston. Mrs. Preston was the daughter of

4

Richardson and Jacqueline Thomas Ogidan and the granddaughter of the late Mary Thomas and

5

Clara Ogidan; and

6

     WHEREAS, From her earliest days, Mrs. Preston was passionate about the importance of

7

education. She attended Community Preparatory School and graduated from Moses Brown. She

8

continued her education at the prestigious Duke University, graduating with a Bachelor of

9

Science degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. Mrs. Preston was also an

10

accomplished athlete at Duke where she was a member of the Duke Track & Field Team,

11

throwing the shot put. As one would expect, she was a loyal and passionate supporter of the Duke

12

Basketball teams and was a long-time interviewer for the Duke Admissions Team; and

13

     WHEREAS, After graduating from Duke, Mrs. Preston returned to Rhode Island and

14

while raising her family, she graduated from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. At the time of

15

her unfortunate passing, Mrs. Preston was serving as the Director and Chief of Staff to the CFO

16

for Takeda Pharmaceuticals USBU, in Lexington, Massachusetts; and

17

     WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Mrs. Preston always took the time to serve her local

18

community and the State of Rhode Island. She volunteered in support of many nonprofit

19

organizations and government boards, including the Moses Brown School and the Rhode Island

Public Transit Authority. She also served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for College

2

Visions. Mrs. Preston also took great joy in leading her daughter’s soccer team as its volunteer

3

coach; and

4

     WHEREAS, In addition to her husband and three daughters, Mrs. Preston leaves behind

5

her sisters, Kemi Tignor and her husband, Jeffrey, and Kari Hadden and her husband,

6

Christopher. She also leaves behind her nephews, Corey Hadden and Henry Thomas Tignor, and

7

a niece, Kyra Hadden; now, therefore be it

8

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

9

expresses its deepest condolences to the Preston Family on the passing of Stephanie Ogidan

10

Preston; and be it further

11

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

12

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Shane Preston and Family.
