H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING AND THANKING CAPTAIN ANTILIANO DE JESUS ESTRELLA FOR HIS

DEVOTED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF PROVIDENCE AND THE STATE

OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, Many people go through their life without any personal contact with a

potential life and death situation. Members of Rhode Island’s fire departments face such

challenges each and every week. Since August of 1991, Antiliano De Jesus Estrella has been on

duty, protecting the homes, property, and lives of residents of the City of Providence; and

     WHEREAS, Captain Estrella has served with the Providence Fire Department as a

Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician, and most recently was assigned to the Fire

Prevention Bureau, working to address fire and life safety problems and risks in high rise

buildings, schools, and neighborhoods. He is also a certified as the Assistant Deputy State Fire

Marshal; and

     WHEREAS, With the invaluable skill of being bilingual, Captain Estrella has the ability

to interpret and translate information between two languages, a skill that has enabled him to work

closely assisting many residents of the City through effective outreach and awareness programs;

and

     WHEREAS, In addition, Captain Estrella has been an integral and instrumental member

of the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC), a multi-agency task force that initiated

an injury prevention program for the Latin community; and

     WHEREAS, Captain Estrella is also a member of the coordinating committee of the

Providence Safe Communities Partnership (PSCP) in Rhode Island, working "to reduce

unintentional injuries in high risk neighborhoods" and serves as the National Fire Protection

Association CHAMPION for the Risk Watch State Management Team. He is also a member of

the Project Development Team and a contributing author for the Circles of Care Project, and has

served as a consultant and technical advisor for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

and the National Association of Hispanic Fire Fighters (NAHFF); and

     WHEREAS, Captain Estrella has touched the lives of so many people. He is truly an

extraordinary man who serves as a model of dedicated and conscientious civic service, and he is

eminently worthy of our emulation and acknowledgement; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

recognizes, honors and thanks Captain Antiliano De Jesus Estrella on the occasion of his

retirement after thirty years of steadfast service to the people of Providence and the State of

Rhode Island. We wish him good health and continued success in all his future endeavors; and be

it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Captain Antiliano De Jesus Estrella.
