1 | WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of the Reverend |
2 | Doctor Murray Scott Blackadar, husband of sixty-two years to his beloved wife and partner, |
3 | Judith Vixseboxse Blackadar, devoted father of Andy Blackadar and his wife, Laura Sadovnikoff, |
4 | Lisa Blackadar and her husband , Stephen Byars, and Jay Blackadar, and the very proud and |
5 | doting grandfather of Adrian Blackadar, Natasha Blackadar (Viktor Gavrielov), Grace Byars, |
6 | Niall Blackadar, and Benjamin Byars; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, Murray Blackadar was the son of the late |
8 | Roland and Frances Blackadar and the brother of Marjorie Elizabeth Belanger. In his teens, he |
9 | knew that becoming a Presbyterian minister was his calling. In preparation for his future service, |
10 | he attended the College of Wooster and McCormick Theological Seminary, and became a |
11 | minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA); and |
12 | WHEREAS, From 1961 through 1998, Reverend Blackadar served a number of |
13 | congregations and churches across the United States including, the First Presbyterian Church in |
14 | Lynn, Massachusetts, the First Presbyterian Church in Levittown, New York, the First |
15 | Presbyterian Church in Stirling, New Jersey, and the Church of our Savior in West Bloomfield, |
16 | Michigan; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Reverend Blackadar was devoted to the community |
18 | and "worked tirelessly and steadily for social justice and dignity for all people"; and |
19 | WHEREAS, In 1999, the Reverend retired and relocated to Providence where he |

1 | continued his involvement in numerous altruistic endeavors including the Rhode Island |
2 | Organizing Project and advocating and assisting refugee families in assimilating to their new |
3 | lives; and |
4 | WHEREAS, In addition to his family and devotion to God and his fellow man, Reverend |
5 | Blackadar expressed his creativity designing and making rugs in his home, restoring furniture, |
6 | and growing beautiful roses. He loved to help family with various house projects, and enjoyed |
7 | traveling adventures with friends and his family; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The Reverend Blackadar was blessed with a family whom he adored and |
9 | who returned his love tenfold and a calling that brought him joy and satisfaction, and truly made a |
10 | positive difference in many people's lives; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
12 | extends deepest sympathy on the passing of the Reverend Doctor Murray Scott Blackadar; and be |
13 | it further |
14 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
15 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Judith Vixseboxse Blackadar and Family. |
