EXPRESSING ITS DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MOLLY FALCONER

DE RAMEL

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the House has learned of the untimely passing of

2

Molly Falconer de Ramel, the beloved wife of Guillaume Henri de Ramel; and

3

     WHEREAS, Molly de Ramel was born in Washington, DC, the oldest child of Allan

4

Ackerman and Abigail King. She grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts, and attended Shady High

5

School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she excelled in both academics and athletics. In high

6

school, she was the Captain of the squash team, was the Massachusetts State Champion and

7

ranked top ten nationally in Extemporaneous Speech, and was the first woman to be the Editor of

8

the Milton Paper; and

9

     WHEREAS, Mrs. de Ramel proceeded to attend Harvard where she graduated Magna

10

Cum Laude and was a John Harvard scholar. Upon graduation, she embarked on a prestigious

11

television broadcasting career. She initially excelled at the smaller cable stations and drew the

12

attention of the large, national networks, where she proceeded to make her mark as an anchor and

13

reporter in the New York City market for several years, the biggest media market in the nation. In

14

recognition of her insightful and poignant reporting of the 9/11 tragedy, she was honored with an

15

Emmy Award; and

16

     WHEREAS, After meeting and marrying the love of her life, Guillaume de Ramel, Molly

17

moved with him to start a family and begin a new career journey. She accepted a position to head

18

Brown University's media relations department before she decided to found and lead Periwinkle

19

Worldwide, a leading executive coaching firm. Within the business world, she soon became a

trusted advisor, highly sought-after-coach, and teacher of leadership skills and practices to

2

numerous executives, many of whom lead organizations that are household names throughout the

3

globe; and

4

     WHEREAS, Mrs. de Ramel had a special knack for translating the essence of a book to a

5

child or client. She played a significant role in her husband Guillaume's political career, providing

6

insightful advice and crisp and concise editing. A childhood friend of hers stated, "She had

7

complete clarity in her understanding of people, places and of complex relationships. This made

8

her a sharp and successful journalist and a savvy businesswoman"; and

9

     WHEREAS, Mrs. de Ramel devoted much of her free time in service to important

10

charities and cultural institutions. She served as a Director or Trustee of the Redwood Library, St.

11

Michaels Country Day School, the Boys & Girls Club, RhodySquash, and the Belmont

12

Foundation. She was deeply interested her entire life in literature, history, education, and helping

13

disadvantaged children; and

14

     WHEREAS, The most important things in Mrs. de Ramel's life was her family. She was a

15

loving, devoted and caring wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. The shining light of excellence

16

and compassion she left behind will be long remembered by her family and many friends; and

17

     WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, Mrs. de Ramel leaves behind her children

18

Charles and Elizabeth, her mother, Abigail, her father and stepmother, Allan and Martha, her

19

mother-in-law Elizabeth Prince, and her brother, Samuel Ackerman and his wife, Jaqueline

20

Lagrange Ackerman, and their two children, Autumn Alethe Ackerman and Samuel John

21

Ackerman; now, therefore be it

22

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

23

expresses its deepest condolences to the de Ramel family on the passing of Molly Falconer de

24

Ramel; and be it further

25

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

26

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Guillaume Henri de Ramel and Family.
