EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ANDREW DAVID | |

1 | WHEREAS, Andrew David Dickson was the son of the late Warren Dickson and |
2 | Rosemond Dickson. He attained a Bachelor of Education degree from Rhode Island College and |
3 | a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Rhode Island; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Dickson began his distinguished teaching career at Cranston High |
5 | School West as a science teacher. This is where he met his future wife, Ann Marie, as she was |
6 | also a first year teacher at Cranston High School West. The following year, seeking some |
7 | adventure in life, Mr. Dickson left for Kenya where he was a mathematics and physics teacher in |
8 | Kisii, Kenya, a British run boarding school. He was so popular, some of his students changed |
9 | their first names to his. His adventure in Africa was one of the high points in his life where, in |
10 | addition to teaching, he also maintained the school generator, climbed Mt. Kenya and Mt. |
11 | Kilimanjaro, and explored the bush country; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Upon returning from Africa, Mr. Dickson began a 42 year civilian career |
13 | with the United States Navy as a teacher in the Quonset Apprenticeship Program and later, after |
14 | numerous promotions, as Director of Labor and Employee Relations at a regional office located |
15 | at the Naval Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut, where he earned high grades for |
16 | being a “numbers guy” who had a plethora of knowledge to share and brought out the best in his |
17 | employees; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Mr. Dickson was a devoted family man who enjoyed coaching his son’s |
19 | youth soccer teams and helping him to run his business, assisting his daughter with her |

1 | homework, and later taking joy in listening to her many stories as a music teacher. He was a |
2 | devoted husband to his wife, Ann Marie, and together they travelled the world. He also helped |
3 | her campaign for public office, and helped her deliver Meals on Wheels on the day before |
4 | Thanksgiving; and |
5 | WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Dickson loved to sing and spend time outdoors. He was |
6 | a communicant and member of the church choir of St. Francis de Sales, in North Kingstown, for |
7 | more than forty years. He was also a member of the Rhode Island Fish and Game Protective |
8 | Association in West Greenwich, and served as their Secretary, Membership Chair, and Newsletter |
9 | Chair from 2000 to 2020; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Mr. Dickson leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Ann Marie, and his children |
11 | Laurel Schwartz and Matthew Dickson. He is also survived by his son-in-law Steve Schwartz, |
12 | daughter-in-law Allison Dickson, and his grandchildren Andrew, Graham, and Jared Dickson, |
13 | and Amy Picard and Ella Schwartz; now, therefore be it |
14 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
15 | expresses its deepest condolences to the Dickson Family on the passing of Mr. Andrew David |
16 | Dickson; and be it further |
17 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
18 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Anne Marie Dickson and Family. |
