It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 45-2 of the General Laws entitled "General Powers" is hereby |
2 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 45-2-68. Local snowstorm communication requirement. |
4 | (a) Every municipality within the State of Rhode Island shall be required to provide notice |
5 | to residents, within at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to any forecasted snowstorm, of street |
6 | parking bans, and trash pickup delays or cancellations, utilizing technological communication |
7 | devices including, but not limited to, electronic, digital media, telephonic or any other method |
8 | available to advise the public. |
9 | (b) Every municipality in the State of Rhode Island shall also provide public parking to |
10 | enable residents to park their automobiles during parking bans, limited, however, to the duration of |
11 | the parking ban plus two (2) hours. |
12 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

1 | This act would require every municipality in Rhode Island to provide residents twenty-four |
2 | (24) hours notice by any electronic or digital means, such as digital media and telephonic, as a |
3 | result of any forecasted snowstorm regarding street parking bans and trash pickup delays or |
4 | cancellations. Towns and cities would also be required to provide public parking for any residents |
5 | unable to park their vehicle at their residence as a result of a parking ban. |
6 | This act would take effect upon passage. |
