EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE | |
CHARLES R. MANSOLILLO, ESQ. | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of the |
2 | Honorable Charles R. Mansolillo, Esq., a long-time distinguished public servant; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Mansolillo was born in Providence, a son of the late Nicholas and |
4 | Adeline Mansolillo. He graduated from Classical High School, and was a cum laude graduate of |
5 | Saint Michael’s College in Vermont. He received his law degree from Suffolk University Law |
6 | School, was admitted to the Rhode Island Bar Association, and pursued graduate studies in |
7 | theology at the former Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. Mansolillo began his distinguished public service career in 1973 when |
9 | he was elected to serve in the Rhode Island General Assembly. In 1975, he was elected to the |
10 | Providence City Council, and shortly thereafter served as the Chief of Staff to Mayor Vincent |
11 | Cianci and as a member of the Commission that authored the Providence Home Rule Charter; and |
12 | WHEREAS, In 1986, Mr. Mansolillo was the Republican nominee for Mayor of |
13 | Providence. He returned to state government to serve as legal counsel in the Department of |
14 | Children, Youth and Families. Soon thereafter, he was appointed to serve as the Director of the |
15 | Governor’s Office of Housing, Energy and Intergovernmental Relations by Governor DiPrete, |
16 | and later as the Governor’s Policy Director; and |
17 | WHEREAS, In 1991, Mr. Mansolillo returned to municipal government, serving as the |
18 | Deputy City Solicitor for Providence, and was appointed City Solicitor by Mayor Cianci in 1992. |
19 | After completing his service in 1993, the Providence City Council, in recognition of his |

1 | meritorious service to the City, conferred on him the title of City Solicitor Emeritus; and |
2 | WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Mansolillo was very active in community affairs. He |
3 | served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Providence anti-poverty agency ProCAP, |
4 | Inc., and as a trustee of the Providence Public Library. He also served as the Chairman of the |
5 | Board of the Providence Catholic Schools Collaborative. He was a communicant of Saint Pius |
6 | Church, and served there as a lector; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Mansolillo leaves behind his brothers, Robert Mansolillo and his wife, |
8 | Nancy, John Mansolillo and his wife, Marlene, Nicholas Mansolillo, and James Mansolillo and |
9 | his wife, Lauren. He also leaves behind his nieces, Marissa Mansolillo and Stephanie Peluso, and |
10 | his nephews Jared Mansolillo, Michael Martin, and Andrew Martin; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
12 | expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of the Honorable Charles R. Mansolillo, Esq., |
13 | and be it further |
14 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
15 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Robert Mansolillo, John Mansolillo, Nicholas |
16 | Mansolillo, and James Mansolillo. |
