H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF DEAN T. HOLT

     WHEREAS, It is with heartfelt sadness that this House has learned of the passing of

Dean T. Holt, the devoted husband of Deborah Holt, the beloved father of Gabrielle Liquorie and

her husband, Paul, our dear friend and colleague Jason Holt, Esq. and his wife, Susan, and

Christopher Puleo and his wife, Nancy. He was also the very proud grandfather of ten

grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, Born in Queens, New York, Dean Holt was a son of the late Henry and

Dorothy Holt, and the brother of Roddy Holt and his wife, Kathy, and the late Col. Guy Holt,

USAF. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Holt received his Bachelor's degree in Financial Management from

New York University School of Commerce and soon thereafter, embarked on a long and

successful career in the banking industry; and

     WHEREAS, Initially, Mr. Holt was employed as an Assistant Secretary with Chemical

Bank. He subsequently joined Fleet Bank, where he held myriad positions until retiring after

thirty years as Chairman, President and CEO in 2002; and

     WHEREAS, Upon leaving Fleet, Mr. Holt served as the President, CEO, and Director of

Domestic Bank until 2010, and then as the CEO of Home Loan and Investment Bank, until

ultimately fully retiring in 2012; and

     WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Holt generously devoted his time and talents to his

community, a trait he instilled in his children. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of

the Providence Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the

Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council, the Board of Trustees of Butler Hospital, the

Providence Performing Arts Center, the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America,

Narragansett Council, and as Chair of the 1986 American Cancer Society Ball; and

     WHEREAS, Dean Holt was "a true Renaissance man" who enjoyed collecting fountain

pens, reading spy novels, playing a good round of golf, sketching, and photography, but

unequivocally and whole-heartedly, he loved, inspired, and was devoted to his family, and he will

be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

extends its deepest sympathy on the passing of Dean T. Holt; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mrs. Deborah Holt, Gabrielle Liquorie and

Family, Jason Holt and Family, and Christopher Puleo and Family.
