CONGRATULATING LT. COL. DARNELL WEAVER ON HIS PROMOTION TO THE | |
POSITION OF SUPERINTENDENT OF THE RHODE ISLAND STATE POLICE | |

1 | WHEREAS, Police officers in the State of Rhode Island and across America work |
2 | diligently and courageously to serve, protect, and preserve the peace, regardless of the perils or |
3 | hazards they potentially face each and every day. To the good fortune of all Rhode Islanders, |
4 | State Police Lt. Col. Darnell S. Weaver will take on these challenges as the 15th Superintendent |
5 | of the Rhode Island State Police on April 29, 2022; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Weaver is a native of the City of Cranston, and has had an |
7 | exemplary twenty-eight year career with the State Police, where he most recently served as |
8 | Deputy Superintendent and Chief of Field Operations. He had previously served our country with |
9 | honor and valor in the United State Marine Corps; and |
10 | WHEREAS, State Police Lt. Col. Weaver is the first person of color to lead the Rhode |
11 | Island State Police, and at a time in our State and Country's history when the need for fairness and |
12 | equal representation is imperative and so very necessary, Lt. Col. Weaver's promotion brings |
13 | hope to many "that the face of law enforcement" will truly represent all our communities; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Notably, Lt Col. Weaver was also the highest-ranking officer of color ever |
15 | in the Rhode Island State Police when he assumed the Lieutenant Colonel post in 2021. He has |
16 | served in all the State Police barracks including as Night Executive Officer and Assistant Patrol |
17 | Commander of the Hope Valley and Wickford barracks, and had previously been the officer in |
18 | charge at the State Police training academy and served as its Director of Training; and |
19 | WHEREAS, With a proven record of public service and strong leadership, there is no |

1 | doubt that Lt. Col. Darnell Weaver will overcome the hurdles and myriad issues that are facing |
2 | both Rhode Island's and police departments around the country and he is eminently worthy of this |
3 | promotion and our confidence; now, therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
5 | recognizes and congratulates Lt. Col. Darnell Weaver on the occasion of his promotion to the |
6 | position of Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and wishes him good health, |
7 | fulfillment, and much success with this responsibility; and be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Lt. Col. Darnell Weaver. |
