RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING THE MEMBERS AND COACH OF THE EAST | |
GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL TEAM ON THEIR VICTORY AT THE RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Academic Decathlon was founded in 1983, and is open to |
2 | all public, private and parochial high schools in Rhode Island; and |
3 | WHEREAS, The 39th annual Rhode Island Academic Decathlon consisted of more than |
4 | 130 students from twelve high school teams from across Rhode Island, and comprised of no more |
5 | than three members of each academic grade level. The entrants participated in an eight hour |
6 | rigorous competition that tests the brain power and overall knowledge and thinking skills in ten |
7 | subject areas ranging from science to art to math, as well as speech, interview, economics, |
8 | language, social science, literature, and essay writing. The theme for this year's competition was |
9 | “Water: The Essential Resource”; and |
10 | WHEREAS, After consistently placing in the top three over the last several years, at the |
11 | 2022 Rhode Island competition, held on March 6th at Bryant University, the East Greenwich |
12 | High School team, under the expert tutelage of their team advisor and coach, Ben Revkin, scored |
13 | 34,000 points and regained first place honors, which they had last achieved in 2010; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The East Greenwich High School team members include Emmett Bassen- |
15 | Alexander, Guy Sanchez, Julia Xu, Zalmay Ahmad, Raj Vishnu, KC Bisetti, Cooper Jones, and |
16 | Mia Pinkes. Each team member received at least one medal, half the team had more than five |
17 | medals, and Mia Pinkes earned a medal for the highest overall score for an individual participant; |
18 | and |
19 | WHEREAS, By taking top honors at the RI Competition, members of the East |

1 | Greenwich team earned the right to represent Rhode Island at the United States Academic |
2 | Decathlon where they attained the designation of Division II "Rookie of the Year"; and |
3 | WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize our youth and to celebrate their |
4 | accomplishments. These distinguished future leaders of our state not only established their |
5 | academic prowess but also exemplify everything that young people can achieve, and they are |
6 | truly deserving of our recognition and praise; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
8 | congratulates the East Greenwich High School team members and Coach for their victory and |
9 | their commendable "Rookie of the Year" status at the National Competition. We moreover wish |
10 | them much happiness and success in all their future endeavors; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ben Revkin, Coach of the East Greenwich |
13 | High School Academic Decathlon Team. |
