EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF LIEUTENANT GARY | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing Gary |
2 | George Miller of Charlestown. He was a dedicated and distinguished police officer and public |
3 | servant; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Miller was the beloved husband of Diane Miller for twenty-four years, |
5 | and the devoted father of Hope Marie and Marie Ellen. He was born in Providence, the son of |
6 | Gary Gordon Miller and Joan Jones; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Miller was a Lieutenant with the Coventry Police Department and |
8 | served the citizens of Coventry and our State with distinction and tireless devotion for twenty- |
9 | three years. He was described by the Department and all of his colleagues and superiors as being |
10 | "the epitome of a great cop, family man and friend." Lieutenant Miller modeled his career on the |
11 | Law Enforcement Code of Ethics, which reads "my fundamental duty is to serve the community; |
12 | to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against |
13 | oppression or intimidation and the peaceful against violence or disorder"; and |
14 | WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Miller enjoyed spending quality time outdoor hiking, |
15 | fishing, and camping off the grid with his family. He also liked spending time at Roy Carpenter's |
16 | Beach with family and friends. More than anything, he cherished his time with his family and was |
17 | honored and proud to serve the public as a police officer with the Coventry Police Department; |
18 | now, therefore be it |
19 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |

1 | expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Lieutenant Gary George Miller of the |
2 | Coventry Police Department; and be it further |
3 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
4 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Diane Miller and Family. |
