H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF PAUL BUCCI

     WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Paul Bucci,

the loving husband of Kimberly Bucci for twenty-five years, and the devoted father of two

adoring sons, Brett and Craig; and

     WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Mr. Bucci was the youngest son of Philip and the late

Patricia Bucci, and the beloved brother of Philip and his wife, Kathy, James and his wife, Nancy,

Roy and his wife, Paula, David and his wife, Lisa, and Lynn Basile. He was also the proud uncle

of several nieces and nephews; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bucci attended Cranston High School East and transferred to the

Governor Dummer Academy for his senior year. After graduating, he earned his Bachelor's

degree in Political Science with a minor in History from the University of Rhode Island; and

     WHEREAS, Upon earning his degree, Mr. Bucci was employed as a Home Equity Credit

Analyst at Rhode Island Hospital Trust Bank. During his time with the bank, he met the love of

his life, Kimberly, and they married in 1997, and together purchased a home in Cranston and

started their family; and

     WHEREAS, In 2001, Mr. Bucci resolved to follow his heart and become a teacher. He

graduated from Rhode Island College in 2002, and began his teaching career at the New England

Laborers Construction and Career Academy. To the very good fortune of many Cranston

students, he subsequently joined the staff at Cranston High School East, where he remained for

the next nineteen years. His love of teaching and for his students was evident in his years at the

High School with the way he connected and inspired them, always warmly greeting his students

and getting updates on his graduates; and

     WHEREAS, In addition to teaching, Mr. Bucci was the Cranston High School West Boys

Cross Country Coach, the Cranston High School East Assistant Boys Indoor Track Coach, and

the Cranston High School East Boys Outdoor Track Head Coach. As a totally dedicated dad, he

also coached his sons' tee-ball team, CLCF soccer coach, and many of their Budlong Little

League baseball teams; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bucci also possessed a strong dedication to the community which led to

a successful campaign for the Cranston school committee, where he served two terms. He had

also had two unsuccessful runs for City Council, which he looked at in a positive light and was

proud of his "old school work ethic" and that he had walked every neighborhood, meeting and

talking to "nice people" in the district; and

     WHEREAS, Throughout his life Mr. Bucci had been a health enthusiast. He enjoyed

running road races, had completed one marathon, several half marathons, and ran and completed

The Blessing of the Fleet race twenty-eight times, so it was not only deeply sad but also shocking

to all who knew him when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Not surprisingly was that even

with the knowledge that he had limited time left on earth, he continued to teach and coach and

live his life to the fullest; and

     WHEREAS, Paul Bucci lived with kindness, generosity, compassion, and honesty. His

bravery and determination in the face of adversity was inspirational as was his entire life and he

will be deeply missed by his loving family, his many friends, the community, and generations of

Cranston students; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

expresses deepest sympathy on the passing of Paul Bucci; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Kimberly Bucci and Family.
