A N   A C T

AUTHORIZING THE TOWN OF NORTH PROVIDENCE TO ESTABLISH, ADOPT, AND

REAPPORTION THE TOWN COUNCIL AND SCHOOL COMMITTEE VOTING WARDS

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. In all respects in which amendments to the local voting wards within the town

of North Providence, which amendment was adopted and approved by the town council of the town

of North Providence on May 24, 2022 as set forth in resolution R22-007, may require ratification,

confirmation, validation or enactment by the general assembly, but in no other respects, the local

reapportionment plan of the local voting wards within the town of North Providence, adopted

pursuant to Article Four, Chapter Two, Section One (4-2-1) of the North Providence town charter,

are hereby ratified, confirmed, validated and enacted by the passage of this act. Nothing contained

in this act shall be construed to abrogate or impair the powers now or hereafter granted to cities and

towns by the Home Rule Amendment and other applicable laws of the State of Rhode Island or

those rights retained by said town of North Providence in its home rule charter.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

AUTHORIZING THE TOWN OF NORTH PROVIDENCE TO ESTABLISH, ADOPT, AND

REAPPORTION THE TOWN COUNCIL AND SCHOOL COMMITTEE VOTING WARDS

     This act would authorize and ratify the action of the North Providence town council which

reapportioned and redistricted its voting wards based on the most recent federal decennial census.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
