CONGRATULATING LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL ON BEING DESIGNATED A "GREEN | |
RIBBON SCHOOL" BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION | |

1 | WHEREAS, Lincoln High School (LHS) is a public education facility serving students in |
2 | the 9th through 12th grades. In addition to the school's numerous academic accolades, on Earth |
3 | Day 2022, LHS was recognized with the prestigious "US Green Ribbon School" designation from |
4 | the United States Department of Education. Schools from nineteen states had been nominated; |
5 | and |
6 | WHEREAS, The Green Ribbon award is given for excellence in school sustainability |
7 | practices that reduce environmental impact and costs, improve the health and wellness of schools, |
8 | students, and staff, and provides effective environmental and sustainability education; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In what was truly an outstanding team effort, LHS completed a school |
10 | renovation project that made upgrades to the facility by installing more efficient systems, low- |
11 | flow and LED fixtures, day-lighting and a modern thermal envelope. Additional projects included |
12 | bio-retention systems, and installation of pervious surfaces and native plantings that do not |
13 | require irrigation; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Educationally, LHS students also have the opportunity to expand their |
15 | knowledge about the environmental through classes offered in environmental science, marine |
16 | biology/zoology, design and engineering, and a mandatory course in civic responsibility that |
17 | requires a community service project; and |
18 | WHEREAS, The accomplishments and strides demonstrated by this achievement |
19 | illustrates the students' understanding and dedication to our environment and the positive impact |

1 | that all the partners at Lincoln High School have had on the educational experience of the young |
2 | people attending the school; now, therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
4 | congratulates the students and entire staff of Lincoln High School on earning the "Green Ribbon |
5 | School" designation and for their uncompromising dedication to excellence in education; and be |
6 | it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
8 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Larry Filippelli, Lincoln School |
9 | Superintendent, and Rob Mezzanotte, Principal of Lincoln High School. |
