EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF NORMAN GEORGE | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Norman |
2 | George Bestoso, devoted husband of Heather for nearly twenty-five years, and the very proud and |
3 | loving father of his son, Norman Daniel, known as “ND”, and his daughter, Lilly; and |
4 | WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the City of Newport, Mr. Bestoso was the only son of |
5 | Norman Daniel and Clara Bestoso. He was a graduate of Rogers High School, during which time |
6 | he had worked as an apprentice electrician for his father at Bestoso and Butterton Electric Co.; |
7 | and |
8 | WHEREAS, Continuing his education, Mr. Bestoso earned a Business Degree from |
9 | Bryant College, and shortly thereafter, was sworn in as a Newport Police Officer where he served |
10 | thirty years active duty. During his tenure on the force, he held multiple positions including, |
11 | patrol officer, juvenile detective, court officer, detective sergeant, press officer, and shift |
12 | commander among others, and had earned myriad professional and leadership certifications; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Upon retiring from the Newport Police Department, Mr. Bestoso began the |
14 | second chapter of his career as a Planning and Budget Administrator for the Newport Police |
15 | Department, which he held until his passing; and |
16 | WHEREAS, For Mr. Bestoso, family was always his number one joy, whether cheering |
17 | for his daughter beside the dugout, watching his son play high school golf, or going on family |
18 | vacations, he was always happiest when surrounded by those he loved; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Mr. Bestoso also enjoyed dining at Sardella’s and the Brick Alley Pub, |

1 | hosting friends at the Prairie Pub, and cheering for the University of Alabama…Roll Tide. In |
2 | addition, he had been a past member of Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club, and a lifelong |
3 | member of Hazard’s Beach; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Norman George Bestoso was blessed with family and friends who loved |
5 | him and a career serving the people of Newport for which he could be very proud, and he will be |
6 | dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
8 | expresses deepest sympathy on the passing of Norman George Bestoso; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Heather Bestoso and Family. |
