HONORING REPRESENTATIVE DEBORAH RUGGIERO FOR HER SERVICE TO THE | |
PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, To the immense good fortune of the people of Jamestown and Middletown, |
2 | Deborah Ruggiero chose a life path that would eventually lead to a vocation in public service. In |
3 | November of 2008, she was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing |
4 | District 74; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Over the past fifteen years, Representative Ruggiero has lent her expertise |
6 | and unique insights to myriad legislative committees. Most recently, she served as Chair of the |
7 | House Innovation, Internet and Technology Committee and as a member of the House Finance |
8 | Committee and the House Special Legislation Committee; and |
9 | WHEREAS, A strong voice on a panoply of issues, Representative Ruggiero has been |
10 | instrumental in enacting legislation in support of the expansion of renewable energy opportunities |
11 | including the Renewable Energy Growth Program, and economic development at Rhode Island’s |
12 | ports. She was also the sponsor of the Safe Schools Act, Rhode Island’s anti-bullying law, and |
13 | legislation to remove regulations on small businesses; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Representative Ruggiero has also chaired numerous study commissions |
15 | including the Joint Port Facilities Study Commission, the commission studying possible |
16 | reorganization of the Coastal Resources Management Council, the task force that studied the |
17 | nexus of mental health laws and gun rights, and the Small Business Renewable Energy |
18 | Commission, all of which resulted in legislation promoting good economic, public safety and |
19 | environmental policy; and |

1 | WHEREAS, In addition to the long hours at the State House, Representative Ruggiero is |
2 | President of DR Communications Group, and the creator and host of the award-winning radio |
3 | show, “Amazing Women.” She is also a member of Save the Bay and the Jamestown Rotary; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Representative Ruggiero's abiding leadership and outstanding services on |
5 | behalf of the citizens of Rhode Island will long be praised, and we know that in all her future |
6 | endeavors, she will continue to provide strong advocacy for all Rhode Islanders; now, therefore |
7 | be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
9 | joins the family and many friends of Representative Deborah Ruggiero in recognizing and |
10 | celebrating her inspirational career of service to the people of Rhode Island. We moreover, wish |
11 | her continued success, happiness and fulfillment; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Deborah Ruggiero. |
