HONORING REPRESENTATIVE GREGG M. AMORE FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE | |
PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House bids farewell to our good friend and |
2 | colleague, the Honorable Gregg Amore, who is retiring from the Rhode Island House of |
3 | Representatives, District 65, after a decade of devoted public service to his East Providence |
4 | constituents and the citizens of the State of Rhode Island; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Upon graduation from East Providence High School, Representative Amore |
6 | attended Providence College, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in history and New England |
7 | College where he earned a Master’s degree in public policy. He is currently the Athletic Director |
8 | for the East Providence School Department where he previously taught for many years. He and |
9 | his wife, Lee and their two daughters, Tess and Megan, make their home in the City of East |
10 | Providence; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Representative Amore was first elected to the House of Representatives in |
12 | November of 2012. Earning the trust and respect of his constituency, he has been re-elected five |
13 | times and currently serves as a Deputy Majority Leader, Chair of the House Finance |
14 | Subcommittee on Education, second Vice Chair of the House Committee on Education, and is a |
15 | member of the House Committee on Finance and the House Committee on Innovation, Internet |
16 | and Technology; and |
17 | WHEREAS, During his tenure in the House, Representative Amore has advocated for |
18 | and sponsored legislation on a panoply of issues including, a bill which makes Advanced |
19 | Placement courses and tests more accessible to a greater number of students, legislation requiring |

1 | students to demonstrate proficiency in civics education before high school graduation, a bill that |
2 | excludes chronic intractable pain from medication prescribing guideline, and played a key role in |
3 | the passage of historic school construction bond assistance; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Representative Amore sponsored legislation |
5 | adding East Providence to the Blackstone Valley tourism district and a resolution urging the East |
6 | Providence City Council to save the historic Metacomet Country Club in East Providence from |
7 | development. He is a past member of the Board of Directors for the East Providence Education |
8 | Association and is a current board member of the Friends of Townie Athletics, a member of the |
9 | Rhode Island Historical Society and the East Providence High School Hall of Fame Committee, |
10 | and serves on the Board of Directors for the East Providence Mohawks Youth Organization and |
11 | serves on the East Providence Democratic City Committee; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Representative Amore has earned numerous honors throughout his years in |
13 | public service. He was honored with the 2021 Paul Crowley Award for his commitment to public |
14 | education, and was recognized as the Rhode Island History Teacher of the Year by the Daughters |
15 | of the American Revolution; and |
16 | WHEREAS, In addition, for many years, Representative Amore coached at both the high |
17 | school and collegiate levels in hockey and baseball, including as an assistant baseball coach at |
18 | Providence College and as the head baseball coach at the Naval Academy Prep School Newport, |
19 | La Salle Academy, and East Providence High School, and was presented with the 2019 Frank |
20 | Murgo Award for his educational efforts and dedicated service to athletes and athletic trainers; |
21 | and |
22 | WHEREAS, Representative Amore serves as a model of dedicated and conscientious |
23 | civic service, and has earned the respect and the gratitude of the citizens in his community and the |
24 | people of this State for making Rhode Island a better place to live and grow; now, therefore be it |
25 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
26 | honors Representative Gregg M. Amore for his service to the people of this State and wishes him |
27 | continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further |
28 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
29 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Gregg Amore. |
