THANKING REPRESENTATIVE ANASTASIA P. WILLIAMS FOR HER THIRTY YEARS | |
OF DEVOTED AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE RHODE ISLAND HOUSE OF | |

1 | WHEREAS, To the good fortune of the residents of Rhode Island House District 9, |
2 | Representative Anastasia Williams was elected to represent them in 1992. Throughout her |
3 | meritorious public service career, she has been a passionate advocate on behalf of those that have |
4 | not always shared in the bounty of American life and have been deprived of the rights accorded to |
5 | others; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Representative Williams has served as the House Labor Committee Chair |
7 | and most recently served as a member of the House Municipal Government and Housing |
8 | Committee, House Oversight Committee, House Rules Committee and the Rhode Black Island & |
9 | Latino Caucus, and has been a leading voice on key issue of importance to the residents of her |
10 | District and the State of Rhode Island; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Among her many accomplishments, Representative Williams was the prime |
12 | sponsor of legislation allowing Rhode Islanders to vote to remove the word "plantations" from |
13 | Rhode Island's name. In 2019, she was the prime sponsor of legislation that codified the privacy |
14 | and reproductive freedom rights in Rhode Island state laws; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Representative Williams also successfully sponsored legislation that |
16 | exempts natural hair braiders from the requirement to be licensed as hairdressers and |
17 | cosmeticians, and provides that any minority business enterprise certified by the Federal Small |
18 | Business Act will be deemed certified by the Department of Administration as a minority |
19 | business enterprise; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Representative Williams currently serves as a coordinator of First Source |
2 | Providence. She has tirelessly supported numerous charitable and civic organizations including |
3 | the United Way, Joslyn and Hartford Community Centers, the West Broadway Neighborhood |
4 | Association, Providence Community Action, Providence Head Start and the Olneyville Housing |
5 | Corporation; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Representative Williams is a graduate of Bishop Keough Regional High |
7 | School and attended Roger Williams University. She is the devoted mother of Lisa, Dionne, |
8 | Jonathan, Eddy, and Hev'n; now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
10 | thanks Representative Anastasia Williams for her thirty years of devoted and distinguished |
11 | service as a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives. We furthermore wish her |
12 | continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Anastasis P. Williams. |
