THANKING RHODE ISLAND’S FIRST RESPONDERS FOR THEIR TIRELESS WORK | |
AND HEROIC EFFORTS TO ASSIST PEOPLE IMPACTED BY THE SEPTEMBER 5TH, | |
2022, RAINSTORM AND FLOODING | |

1 | WHEREAS, On September 5th of 2022, and the night prior, the State of Rhode Island, |
2 | and especially the Providence County communities of Cranston, Providence, Smithfield, |
3 | Greenville, Cranston, North Providence and Central Falls were hard hit by a storm that in some |
4 | areas reached almost 11 inches of rain; and |
5 | WHEREAS, The immense ferocity of this storm caused flash flooding resulting in the |
6 | closure of I-95 and Route 10 for a period of time, as well as numerous streets in Providence and |
7 | the surrounding communities, with many drivers getting stranded and having to abandon their |
8 | vehicles. On Peace Street in Providence an unoccupied building collapsed, roofs collapsed, |
9 | asphalt was ripped up in certain places, and at Brown University, approximately thirty students |
10 | were temporarily displaced when floodwater infiltrated their dorm; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Once again, as they always do, Rhode Island’s hard-working and heroic first |
12 | responders answered the call and helped to alleviate and fix the enormous problems caused by |
13 | this storm as quickly as possible. They took people needing medical assistance to medical |
14 | facilities, performed life-saving CPR and other emergency assistance, checked in on the elderly, |
15 | the sick, handicapped and other vulnerable residents, assisted stranded motorists and moved |
16 | submerged vehicles out of the way, and always going above and beyond the call of duty to assist |
17 | anyone impacted by this storm; now, therefore be it |
18 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
19 | heartily thanks Rhode Island’s first responder community for their tireless work and efforts to |

1 | assist Rhode Island residents who were impacted by the violent storm flooding that impacted our |
2 | State on September 5, 2023; and be it further |
3 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
4 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Rhode Island, the |
5 | Honorable Daniel J. McKee. |
