H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING AND THANKING SANDY M. BARONE FOR ALL SHE HAS DONE FOR

THE PEOPLE OF EAST PROVIDENCE, BARRINGTON AND THE STATE OF RHODE

ISLAND

     WHEREAS, It is a rare individual for whom the call of politics and an abiding passion

for civic service are so intrinsic to their very being. Sandy Barone has been the epitome of just

such a person, having spent much of her life in service to her community and our State; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Barone attained her Bachelor's degree from Rhode Island College and

did her graduate studies at the University of Rhode Island. She was employed as a Realtor for

many years, and she and her husband, John made their home in the Town of Barrington and later

in East Providence; and

     WHEREAS, On November 6 of 1990, Mrs. Barone was elected by the people of

Barrington and East Providence to serve in the Rhode Island House of Representatives for

District 87. During her years in the General Assembly she served on myriad committees and was

a strong advocate for women's rights and reproductive choice; and

     WHEREAS, Enormously well-respected in the community, Mrs. Barone was a member

of the East Providence City Charter Commission and was the lead author of the Charter initiative

that now allows the voters to elect the City's Mayor. She served as the Ward 1 Chair of the East

Providence Democrats for many years and was named "Person of the Year" for her extraordinary

efforts; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Barone has generously and consistently contributed her time and

energies to the betterment of our State and her passionate commitment to the community and our

State has distinguished her as a person truly worthy of our utmost admiration and gratitude; now,

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

recognizes and thanks Sandy Barone for her munificent contributions to the betterment of the

people of East Providence, Barrington and the State of Rhode Island. We moreover wish Sandy

and her husband, John, good health and much happiness as they begin a new chapter of their lives

in Vermont near their daughter, Raechel, son-in-law, Ben, and their beautiful grandchildren, Ezra

and Indira; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That we here gathered hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly

certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Sandy Barone.
