EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE | |
JOSEPH A. DELORENZO, JR. | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Joseph |
2 | DeLorenzo, Jr., the beloved husband of Mary DeLorenzo for fifty-eight years; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo was a hard-working man who strived daily to provide for |
4 | his family and loved ones. He was a successful businessman who was the founder and CEO of the |
5 | Ocean State Rental Corporation, and later added Mobile Stages Northeast to his business |
6 | enterprise. Through the years, he was able to travel the country and stage many popular events |
7 | from college commencements to an Aerosmith concert, as well as important Rhode Island events |
8 | like the Newport Jazz Festival; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo was a public servant with a long and distinguished record of |
10 | honorable service who always put the “average, hard-working Rhode Islander” first on his |
11 | priority list. He served the citizens of Cranston for twenty-five years where he became the Vice- |
12 | Chairman of the Finance Committee and was known for his vigilant protection of the public |
13 | interest and for asking pointed questions at Committee hearings in his quest for the truth; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo was later elected to the Cranston City Council, where he |
15 | served as President. He was also the Deputy Secretary of State, served on the Democratic State |
16 | Committee for 47 years, and for many years, as the Chairman of the Cranston City Committee; |
17 | and |
18 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo served on numerous civic commissions and committees |
19 | including, the Rhode Island Lottery Commission, the Rhode Island Investment Commission, the |

1 | Rhode Island Convention Center Authority, and the Cranston Board of Canvassers; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeLorenzo was a passionate sports enthusiast, who loved coaching |
3 | CLCF Little League and Edgewood Hockey, and thoroughly enjoyed watching and following his |
4 | beloved Boston Red Sox as well as the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and Providence |
5 | Friars basketball. He also immensely enjoyed big family parties and dining at Twin Oaks; and |
6 | WHEREAS, In addition to his wife Mary, Mr. DeLorenzo leaves behind his children, |
7 | Lisa Scotti and her husband, Gerard, Joseph DeLorenzo III, and Christine DeLorenzo and her |
8 | husband, Charles Bridges. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ashley and |
9 | Nicholas Scotti, his siblings, Catherine Hogan and Dolores D’Agostino, his nephews and many |
10 | friends; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
12 | expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of the Honorable Joseph A. DeLorenzo, Jr.; and |
13 | be it further |
14 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
15 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Mary DeLorenzo and Family. |
