H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

THANKING THE HONORABLE JOSEPH M. POLISENA FOR HIS NEARLY THIRTY

YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Joseph Polisena was born in Providence and raised in

2

Johnston. He graduated from Johnston High School in 1972, and the Community College of

3

Rhode Island in 1985 with an Associate degree in nursing, and Roger Williams University in

4

1988, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in health services; and

5

     WHEREAS, Joseph Polisena has been a hard worker his entire life. He was employed by

6

the Community College of Rhode Island as a registered nurse, worked as a nurse at Our Lady of

7

Fatima Hospital, and also worked as a firefighter for the Johnston Fire Department; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mr. Polisena began his distinguished public service career when he was

9

elected to serve the citizens of Johnston in the Rhode Island Senate in 1993, a position he held

10

from 1993 to 1999, and from 2001 to 2007, serving as a Deputy Majority Leader. He also served

11

on the State Commission to study making improvements to the State Fire Code following the

12

fatal 2003 Station Nightclub fire; and

13

     WHEREAS, In 2006, Mr. Polisena was elected as the 4th Mayor of Johnston, a position

14

he held for sixteen years. As Mayor, he was known for his tireless work ethic, impeccable

15

integrity, and his strong support for fiscal responsibility, and law and order. He has been a

16

beloved fixture within the Town of Johnston and his strong leadership skills were widely admired

17

by the Town's voters. He is married to Lucille “Lucy” Polisena and is the proud father of the new

18

Mayor of the Town of Johnston, Joseph Polisena, Jr.; now, therefore be it

19

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

heartily thanks the Honorable Joseph M. Polisena for his nearly thirty years of exemplary and

2

meritorious public service and wishes him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it

3

further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Joseph M. Polisena.
