EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF SHIRLEY L. ZDANUK | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Shirley L. |
2 | Zdanuk, the beloved wife of the late MMCM Anthony Zdanuk, Sr., USN, Ret., for fifty-eight |
3 | years; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Shirley Zdanuk was born into a large and loving family in Shelton, |
5 | Connecticut, a daughter of the late Alfred and Genevieve Cotnoir. She was the sister of Barbara |
6 | Nimmons, Prudence Hayden, Marsha Pettingill, Lauren Chirgwin, and the late Walter and |
7 | Norman Cotnoir, and Joyce Guliuzza; and |
8 | WHEREAS, An exceptional student who graduated early from Shelton High School, |
9 | Mrs. Zdanuk married the love of her life, Tony, and together, while traveling the country due to |
10 | Tony’s military career, they raised five children, Anthony Zdanuk Jr., Stash Zdanuk, who is |
11 | married to Corinne, Darrell Tremblay, who is married to Roger, Janice Ferreira, who is married to |
12 | Joseph, and Kristin Wisner. Over the years, she was also blessed with eleven grandchildren: |
13 | Gretchen Barron, Richard Zayatz, Danielle Tremblay, David Zayatz, Jonathan Tremblay, Peter |
14 | Ferreira, Alan Zdanuk, Michaelina Zdanuk, Nicholas Zdanuk, Randi Zdanuk, and Arianna |
15 | Zdanuk, as well as nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Zdanuk was an avid history buff who took pride in having visited |
17 | forty-nine states and her ancestral family lands in Scotland and Nova Scotia. She enjoyed, |
18 | excelled, and had been a champion on Jeopardy. She was the owner of Gretchen's Garden Florist |
19 | in Portsmouth and spent many years devoted to her community, as co-chair of the 350th |
20 | celebration for the Town of Portsmouth, and as President of the Portsmouth Garden Club; and |

1 | WHEREAS, In addition to her efforts in the community, Mrs. Zdanuk volunteered |
2 | numerous hours working to honor the military including being a driving force behind the Beirut |
3 | Marine Memorial in Portsmouth; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Shirley Zdanuk was renowned for her delicious apple pie and her love of |
5 | Eddie Arnold songs. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who served her |
6 | community and our country’s veterans with devotion and she will be dearly missed by all who |
7 | had the good fortune to be a part of her life; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
9 | extends deepest condolences on the passing of Shirley L. Zdanuk; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Anthony Zdanuk Jr., Stash Zdanuk and Family, |
12 | Darrell Tremblay and Family, Janice Ferreira and Family, and Kristin Wisner. |
