HONORING AND THANKING MICHAEL A. DILAURO, ESQ. ON THE OCCASION OF | |
HIS RETIREMENT | |

1 | WHEREAS, For more than forty-one years, the citizens of the Ocean State have been the |
2 | beneficiaries of the patience, wisdom, and abiding dedication to excellence that Attorney Michael |
3 | DiLauro always brought to his work as the Director of Training & Legislation Liaison with the |
4 | Rhode Island Public Defender’s Office; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Prior to assuming his duties as Director, Mr. DiLauro was a member of the |
6 | Public Defender’s Office Trial Team, where he had tried approximately sixty capital cases to |
7 | verdict, thus providing him with the invaluable knowledge and experience necessary to train other |
8 | attorneys; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In his position as Director, Mr. DiLauro was responsible for initiating |
10 | programs to train the department’s attorneys, as well as advancing the department’s legislative |
11 | agenda while keeping abreast of any legislation that would impact criminal law and procedure; |
12 | and |
13 | WHEREAS, During his tenure as Director of Training & Legislation Liaison, Mr. |
14 | DiLauro was an invaluable member of myriad commissions and task forces including the |
15 | commission studying avenues to ensure racial equity and the optimization of health and safety |
16 | laws affecting marginalized individuals, and a Senate task force investigating and providing |
17 | recommendations for changes to the laws, court rules, and policies and procedures, to name but a |
18 | few of his legislative commitments; and |
19 | WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. DiLauro had been the Public Defender's Office designee on |

1 | the multi-year task force that ultimately resulted in enacted legislation entitled, the |
2 | “Comprehensive Police Relationship Act” that addressed wide-ranging issues regarding racial |
3 | profiling; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Mr. DiLauro has continued to education and provide |
5 | training, consulting, and advocacy for individuals interested in and impacted by the justice system |
6 | through his company “The Just Criminal Justice Group, LLC”; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Michael DiLauro, Esq. has left a legacy of commitment to justice for the |
8 | people of our State and he is worthy of our emulation and acknowledgement; now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives hereby honors and thanks Michael |
10 | DiLauro for more than forty-one years of dedicated service in the Office of the Rhode Island |
11 | Public Defender and wishing him continued success with new business “The Just Criminal |
12 | Justice Group”; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Michael A. DiLauro, Esq. |
