It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 16-87 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Prekindergarten |
2 | Education Act" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 16-87-8. Establishment of a prekindergarten. |
4 | In furtherance of the goals set forth in this chapter, no later than September 1, 2025, the |
5 | Rhode Island department of elementary and secondary education shall establish a statewide, |
6 | universal prekindergarten, early childhood education program that serves all children ages three |
7 | (3), four (4) and five (5) years. |
8 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
