CONGRATULATING JENNIE JOHNSON ON BEING NAMED VICE PRESIDENT OF | |
WORKFORCE PARTNERSHIPS AT THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF RHODE ISLAND | |
AND THANKING HER FOR SIXTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATION AND DILIGENCE AS | |
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CITY YEAR PROVIDENCE | |

1 | WHEREAS, Since 2006, Jennie Johnson has consistently devoted her considerable |
2 | talents, time and energies to advancing the mission of City Year. To the very good fortune of the |
3 | Community College of Rhode Island, on March 3, 2023, she will be leaving City Year to take on |
4 | the challenges of her new position as Vice President of Workforce Partnerships at the College; |
5 | and |
6 | WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson graduated from Warwick Vets High School and attended |
7 | CCRI, later earning her Bachelor’s degree in marketing and psychology from Rhode Island |
8 | College. In 2018, prior to joining City Year, she worked as a Commissioner at the Rhode Island |
9 | Board of Elections and as a community director for the March of Dimes Rhode Island chapter; |
10 | and |
11 | WHEREAS, Finding her perfect niche, Ms. Johnson joined City Year as Executive |
12 | Director and set out to take on the challenges of helping the community. Achieving multiple |
13 | successes and advancements during her tenure, she is credited with enhancing the organization’s |
14 | reach through fundraising, shareholder engagement and strategic development, and with |
15 | expanding the footprint of AmeriCorps which is now able to support thousands of students, to |
16 | name but a few of her many accomplishments; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Widely-respected in the community and by her peers for her tremendous |
18 | work ethic, Ms. Johnson was honored with the “Women of Excellence” award from the Women’s |

1 | Center of Rhode Island, was named as one of GoLocalProv’s “12 people who made a difference |
2 | in 2012”, and received the Providence Business News “People Under 40 Award”; and |
3 | WHEREAS, In her new position as Vice President of Workforce Development at her |
4 | alma mater, Ms. Johnson will be responsible for aligning “workforce training programs with |
5 | academic, industry and public sector needs, developing partnerships with businesses and |
6 | overseeing marketing strategies and outreach for increased enrollment”; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson’s successes haven’t simply been the result of good fortune, but |
8 | have moreover been due to her immense talents, intellectual aptitude, and focus. She is a |
9 | paradigm of the very best leadership qualities and she is eminently worthy of our praise and |
10 | acknowledgement; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
12 | thanks Jennie Johnson for her tireless work as Executive Director of City Year Providence and |
13 | moreover congratulates her on being named Vice President of Workforce Partnerships at the |
14 | Community College of Rhode Island. We wish her continued success, fulfillment, and good |
15 | health; and be it further |
16 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
17 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Jennie Johnson. |
