RELATING TO HOLIDAYS AND DAYS OF SPECIAL OBSERVANCE -- DAYS OF | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 25-2 of the General Laws entitled "Days of Special Observance" is |
2 | hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 25-2-60. Gold star spouses day. |
4 | The fifth day in April in each and every year shall be set aside as a day to be known as |
5 | "Rhode Island Gold Star Spouses Day." This nation and state owe an enormous debt to the |
6 | surviving loved ones of military service members who died while serving their country and this |
7 | day offers remembrance for the spouses and their families and a time of recognition of their |
8 | sacrifices. The day is to be observed by the people of this state with appropriate exercises in public |
9 | places, and shall cause a display of the state and American flags to be flown at half-staff over the |
10 | Rhode Island state house to commemorate this day of remembrance to honor their memory. |
11 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
