RELATING TO HEALTH AND SAFETY -- ELEVATORS, ESCALATORS AND

DUMBWAITERS

     Introduced By: Representatives Bennett, Corvese, Noret, Morales, Henries, Costantino,
Hull, Cardillo, Slater, and Diaz

     Date Introduced: February 15, 2023

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 23-33 of the General Laws entitled "Elevators, Escalators, and

Dumbwaiters" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     23-33-12.1. Inspection and registration of private elevators.

     The chief inspector shall conduct a final acceptance inspection on completion of the

installation, modification, or alteration of a private residence elevator before it is placed in service.

Upon completion and final acceptance inspection of a private residence elevator, the homeowner

shall register the private residence elevator with the department of labor and training. Registration

is to be made on a form furnished by the department of labor and training - division of occupational

safety and a database of private residence elevators shall be maintained by the chief inspector.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would provide for a registration process for private elevators to include a database

of all private elevators to be maintained by the chief inspector.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
