EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE SANFORD | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of the |
2 | Honorable Sanford Gorodetsky of Warren, the beloved husband of Barbara Blossom for 42 years; |
3 | and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Gorodetsky was born in Providence, the son of the late Louis and Sally |
5 | Gorodetsky. He was a graduate of Classical High School, Providence College, and earned a J.D. |
6 | from Boston University Law School. Prior to embarking on his legal career, Mr. Gorodetsky |
7 | joined the United States Army and served our nation with honor in the Pacific Region; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. Gorodetsky had a long and distinguished public service career. He |
9 | served with integrity as the Providence Director of Public Safety, as Chief Judge for the |
10 | Providence Municipal Court, and as a member of the Providence City Council; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mr. Gorodetsky was a respected lawyer for 62 years and was professionally |
12 | recognized by the Rhode Island Bar Association. He was very active within the veterans’ |
13 | community and served as the Commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Rhode Island |
14 | Chapter. He also served as a former Secretary for the Permanent Advisory Council of the House |
15 | Veterans’ Affairs Committee and was a member of the United Veterans Council, Disabled |
16 | American Veterans Chapter 15 in Bristol, and the World War II Monument Committee; and |
17 | WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Gorodetsky was a talented singer, band musician, and |
18 | actor. He performed on both the stage and screen, earning many acting credits in both television |
19 | and film. He was admired within the artistic and professional communities for his professional |

1 | confidence and affable personality; and |
2 | WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Barbara, Mr. Gorodetsky leaves behind his sons, |
3 | Evan Gorodetsky and Brian Gorodetsky, his stepchildren, Robin Blossom and Perry Blossom, |
4 | and his sister, Lenore Gorodetsky. He was previously married to the late Harriet Gorodetsky; |
5 | now, therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
7 | expresses its condolences on the passing of the Honorable Sanford Gorodetsky; and be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Barbara Blossom and Family. |
