RELATING TO BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONS -- ATHLETIC TRAINERS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 5-60-10 of the General Laws in Chapter 5-60 entitled "Athletic |
2 | Trainers" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
3 | 5-60-10. Qualifications of athletic trainers. |
4 | (a) An applicant for an athletic trainer license must possess one of the following |
5 | qualifications: |
6 | (1) Give proof of graduation from an accredited college or university and have met the |
7 | following minimum athletic-training-curriculum requirements established by the board, by |
8 | completing the following specific course requirements: |
9 | (i) Human anatomy; |
10 | (ii) Human physiology; |
11 | (iii) Physiology of exercise; |
12 | (iv) Applied anatomy and kinesiology; |
13 | (v) Psychology (2 courses); |
14 | (vi) First aid and CPR; |
15 | (vii) Nutrition; |
16 | (viii) Remedial exercise; |
17 | (ix) Personal, community, and school health; |
18 | (x) Techniques of athletic training; |
19 | (xi) Advanced techniques of athletic training; and |

1 | (xii) Clinical experience in accordance with national standards and as approved by the |
2 | director. |
3 | (2) Show proof acceptable to the board of education and experience of equal caliber to that |
4 | specified in subsection (a)(1). |
5 | (3) Have passed the required examination approved by the department. |
6 | (b) On and after January 1, 2004, an applicant for initial licensure shall be required to |
7 | demonstrate: |
8 | (1) Proof of graduation from an accredited college or university and shall have met |
9 | minimum athletic training requirements as established by department regulation; and |
10 | (2) Proof of having passed the required examination, approved by the department, and shall |
11 | have been certified by the national certifying body recognized by the National Athletic Trainers |
12 | Association (NATA). |
13 | (c) On and after January 1, 2024, as a condition for issuance or maintaining a license issued |
14 | pursuant to § 5-60-9, an athletic trainer shall successfully complete training and be issued a |
15 | certificate pursuant to the provisions of § 23-6.4-6. |
16 | SECTION 2. Chapter 5-60 of the General Laws entitled "Athletic Trainers" is hereby |
17 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
18 | 5-60-10.1. Trained and equipped with epi-pen requirement. |
19 | On and after January 1, 2024, every athletic trainer licensed pursuant to § 5-60-9 shall be |
20 | trained and equipped with an epinephrine auto-injector while performing the duties of an athletic |
21 | trainer. |
22 | SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

2 | 2024, athletic trainers would be required to be equipped with an epi-pen while performing duties |
3 | of an athletic trainer. |
