RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- THREATS AND EXTORTION

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 11-42 of the General Laws entitled "Threats and Extortion" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     11-42-4.1. Menacing.

     Whoever knowingly and willfully delivers or conveys, directly or indirectly, a verbal,

written or physical threat to take the life of, or to inflict bodily harm upon, another person, shall be

guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be imprisoned for not more than one year or fined not more than

one thousand dollars ($1,000), or both.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would establish the criminal offense of menacing as a misdemeanor and

punishable by a year in person or fined not more than one thousand dollars ($1,000).

     This act would take effect upon passage.
