RELATING TO WATERS AND NAVIGATION -- COASTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 46-23 of the General Laws entitled "Coastal Resources Management |
2 | Council" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 46-23-20.7. Staff attorney. |
4 | (a) There is hereby created the position(s) of staff attorney to the executive director of the |
5 | coastal resources management council. The executive director is hereby empowered and directed |
6 | to hire a staff attorney(s) consistent with this section. The executive director shall have at least one |
7 | full-time attorney-at-law on staff. The staff attorney(s) shall be hired by and serve at the pleasure |
8 | of the executive director. The position of staff attorney(s) shall be full-time and report directly to |
9 | the executive director. |
10 | (b) The staff attorney(s) shall be an attorney(s)-at-law and shall not otherwise engage in |
11 | the practice of law. |
12 | (c) The staff attorney(s) shall represent the executive director and staff on all matters |
13 | including representation at council hearings. The staff attorney(s) shall not represent the council at |
14 | hearings or communicate with council members on any matter pending before the council except |
15 | during the course of a public hearing. |
16 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
