1 | WHEREAS, Douglas Brinkley is a Professor of History and the Katherine Tsanoff |
2 | Brown Chair in Humanities at Rice University. He is also a renowned author and two-time |
3 | Grammy Award winner; and |
4 | WHEREAS, On Thursday, January 26th, Douglas Brinkley was welcomed and |
5 | recognized by the House Chamber for his innumerable achievements and informative discussions |
6 | with House members; and |
7 | WHEREAS, On February 5th of 2023 at the 65th annual Grammy Awards, Mr. Brinkley |
8 | took home the gold in the Best Latin Jazz Album category for his work co-producing “Fandango |
9 | At The Wall In New York” by Arturo O’Farrill and The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, featuring the |
10 | Conga Patria Son Jarocho Collective. In 2017, he won his first Grammy in the Best Large Jazz |
11 | Ensemble Album category for “Presidential Suite: Eight Variations on Freedom”; and |
12 | WHEREAS, In addition to his Grammys, Mr. Brinkley is an acclaimed best-selling |
13 | author of more than thirty books including “The Rosa Parks Story”, “Going Upriver”, "Tour of |
14 | Duty: John Kerry and the Vietnam War", “The Vatican Revealed”, “The Unfinished Presidency: |
15 | Jimmy Carter's Journey Beyond the White House”, “Gerald R. Ford”, “The Great Deluge: |
16 | Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast” that received the Robert F. |
17 | Kennedy Book Award, and recently, “Cronkite” which won the Sperber Prize; and |
18 | WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Brinkley is the official U.S. Presidential Historian, served |
19 | as Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Center for American Civilization, is a history commentator |

1 | for CBS News and a contributing editor to the magazines "Vanity Fair" and "American Heritage"; |

3 | WHEREAS, For all his merited accomplishments, Douglas Brinkley is truly an |
4 | inspiration to us all and he is eminently worthy of our praise and acknowledgement; now, |
5 | therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
7 | heartily congratulates Douglas Brinkley for his most recent Grammy Award and his innumerable |
8 | literary achievements. We moreover extend best wishes for his continued success, happiness and |
9 | good health; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Douglas Brinkley. |
