EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF BETTY JANE PERCIVAL

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Betty

2

Jane Percival of Warwick, the devoted wife of the late Robert Irving Percival; and

3

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Percival was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harry and

4

Dorothy Allen. She moved to Rhode Island as a child and graduated from Gorton High School,

5

where she met the love of her life, her late husband, Robert. They were married in 1949; and

6

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Percival worked briefly as a typist before deciding to focus her life on

7

being a mother and wife. She created a warm and nurturing home for her loved ones and was

8

always the center of family life for the Percivals; and

9

     WHEREAS, As she got older, Mrs. Percival embraced her role as grandmother “Nannie”

10

to her cherished grandchildren and as the matriarch of the family. She adored spending time with

11

her grandchildren and never missed an important event or milestone in their lives; and

12

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Percival was a woman of deep Christian faith. She was a longtime

13

member of the Warwick Central Baptist Church in Apponaug, and also served with distinction on

14

the Board of Christian Education and the Board of Deacons. Mrs. Percival was blessed to have

15

many friends and enjoyed travelling the world with her husband and spending several winters in

16

Florida. She was an accomplished golfer and played in leagues at both the former Woodland

17

Greens and Seaview Golf Clubs; and

18

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Percival leaves behind her children, Darryl Percival and his wife,

19

Kathleen, Keith Percival, and Janis Constantine and her husband, Michael, and her grandchildren

20

Carra Beth Baptista and her husband, Peter, Alexis Percival Slovick and her husband, David,

Jonathan Constantine and his wife, Chelsea, and Dean Percival. She was the sister of the late

2

Virginia Meyer, Elaine Bak, and Richard Allen; now, therefore be it

3

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

4

expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Betty Jane Percival; and be it further

5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

6

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Darryl Percival and Family, Keith Percival, and

7

Janis Constantine and Family.
